Five new charter schools received the green light from the Metro school board Tuesday, overcoming fiscal concerns of some members and continuing Nashville’s steady growth of a model that has been the source of contentious debate here. Fast-growing South Nashville will be home to four of the new schools, while the nation’s largest charter operator will take over a still-undetermined low-performing elementary school — each, for the most part, follows a set of priorities the Metro school board outlined last fall.
